Why GSP Guide Gear Exists
GSP Guide Gear exists to help German Shorthaired Pointer owners raise better dogs—and avoid wasting money on gear that doesn’t hold up.
This site focuses on what actually works for high-energy GSPs, especially during the puppy stage when mistakes matter most.
Where This Started
GSP Guide Gear started in a farmhouse on Newell Hill in upstate New York—with our family (Corey, Emily, Silas, and Maren), a hardworking pointer named Olive, and a litter of nine puppies that forced us to figure things out fast.
Those first weeks weren’t polished.
They were early mornings, constant cleanup, trial and error, and learning the hard way what works—and what doesn’t.
We saw firsthand:
- which gear held up
- which products failed
- what actually helps raise a calm, capable dog
What You’ll Find Here
Most dog advice sounds good in theory.
This site is different.
Everything here is built around real use with GSP puppies and hunting dogs, including:
- Puppy training (crate training, potty schedules, first 30 days)
- Fixing common problems (biting, whining, chewing, accidents)
- Gear that actually holds up (crates, collars, training tools)
- Safety and health basics for active dogs
No fluff. No overcomplicated systems. Just what works.
How Gear Is Selected
Some gear featured on this site is used directly with our dogs.
Other recommendations are based on:
- consistent feedback from experienced GSP owners and upland hunters
- long-term reliability in real conditions
- products with a track record of actually holding up
If something fails repeatedly in the field, it doesn’t make the list.
Transparency
Some pages on this site include affiliate links. If you click and make a purchase, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
I don’t recommend products just to include links. Everything featured is something I would use, trust, or confidently suggest to another GSP owner.
Final Thought
GSPs aren’t low-effort dogs.
They’re driven, smart, and demanding—but if you get it right early, they become incredible partners.
This site exists to help you do that.
Welcome to GSP Guide Gear.
